October 2017 Newsletter

Faith, Steve and Betsy at the Port-au-Prince airport

From Steve & Faith Leach

Well, the day of our departure is at hand. Tomorrow (October 12) we will get on that big plane and fly to the States. We (Steve & Faith) have lived here in Haiti for 21 years and it has been a long hard ride much of the time. We are leaving with a sense that we have been faithful to the call that the Lord gave us and that we have accomplished much during these years. We want to thank everyone who has prayed for us over the years and given to support us. Truly, it would not have been possible for us to complete this journey without all the constant prayer and support.

We will begin a new life in Missouri with family and friends and we will have many decisions to make as we build a new life there. It is our plan to spend a few months just resting and spending time with family. Steve will be returning to Haiti on December 12 to cover for Matt and Sarah while they are in the States for the birth of their 4th child. He will be returning to Missouri on January 16. Faith will not be returning to Haiti so she can rest and be present for the birth of our 10th grandchild. She plans to start looking for a job after the first of the year and Steve plans to start the preliminary preparations for building a house after he returns from Haiti in January. We ask that you continue to pray for us as we sort out what God has for us in that new life.

Lastly, we know better than any other people how crushing the new responsibilities that Matt and Sarah have accepted can be. We would earnestly ask that you please be very diligent to lift them up in prayer. It is a huge undertaking that will take all the strength they have and your prayer support is very necessary for their success.

With much love and appreciation,
Steve and Faith

From Betsy Rennells

As I write this last piece for the newsletter I have been back in the States for a couple of days now. I feel like I should explain why I am moving home instead of staying and helping Matt and Sarah. I feel like God called me to move to Bombardopolis to help Steve and Faith and it made sense that I would leave when they did. I had started off with a 2-year commitment (2013) but God had other plans and I ended up spending 5 years in Haiti helping them. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside them to provide healthcare for the people of Bombardopolis. It was not an easy job for sure but I do not regret it.

The plans for my future are to move back to Michigan to be close to family and friends again. I also plan on going back to school. I have an associates degree in early childhood development and education and plan to build on that to get my bachelors to eventually be a Child Life Specialist.

I am thankful for the prayer and support of all of you! Thanks for helping me be the hands and feet of Jesus (especially to the many little children I had the privilege to care for).

With a thankful heart,
