  • Nutrition Depot

    6 April 2012

So we keep thinking that we are through, at least temporarily, with construction but . . . we are working on a storage building (we call storage buildings depots), where we keep the food that we give away through various nutrition programs. The existing building was built by Wesley Poland in the 1980s. We are using native rock so as to match the existing as closely as we can.

In the first photo below, the section to the far right had the original roof removed and a concrete roof poured a couple of years ago to make it rat proof, it worked. To fill current need, we are adding space by enclosing the porch area and will then remove and replace the metal roof with concrete. The plan is to have the roof 11 feet high, which will allow for higher stacking of the food, which is usually in 50 or 100 lb bags or on pallets.

The name of the fellow laying the rocks in the second photo is Mono. He is a very talented guy, and works with us on a semi-regular basis.

    Some stats:
Food supplementation is given to approximately 300 people per month in categories including: HIV and TB patients, malnourished children, malnourished pregnant and nursing mothers, and elderly folks. We function as the administrator for these programs. The food is donated by Christian Aid Ministries for the elderly and the World Food Program for all the other categories. We apportion approximately 10 tons of food per month.

  • Graduates

    7 February 2012

These boys were both malnourished as babies but having graduated from the malnourished program, they are healthy young boys now. It is so good to see them doing well, and the smile on mom's face is great :)

  • How 'Bout Dem Apples, All 2888 of 'Em

    2 December 2011

We all have traditions that we cherish. Some traditions get in the way of serving God, some are service in themselves. Jeff & Lisa Dodson and friends started a tradition three years ago that has grown to touch hundreds of lives and helped to save many. It all started with love. Love for God, the poor and their own friends and neighbors, oh, and a recipe------for apple dumplings.

These folks saw a need to help some of the most helpless people on earth, malnourished infants born in one of the poorest areas in the world. This year, the second for them to target the needs of these babies, they raised over $4500 to buy infant formula; they raised it $2 at a time.

The self-labeled "Apple Dumpling Gang" met every week, beginning in early September into November to make the dumplings, complete with baking instructions, scripture, and facts about the babies and Haiti. The team, which includes 7-year-old Lydia Rolling and 91-year-old Paul Willis, went through 28 bushels of apples.

The Dodsons are part of Zanesville Medical Mission (ZMM) and are coming with them in January 2012 to perform surgery at Hopital Evangelique. ZMM was instrumental in equipping our operating room and this will make their third trip to perform much needed surgeries. We thank God for folks like the Apple Dumpling Gang, Zanesville Medical Mission and you, when you put the needs of others before your own.

  • Chilanda

    1 October 2011

Chilanda is a baby who has lived with her grandmother since she was a little baby. She brought her to us when she was 8 months old very malnourished. She stayed in the nutrition center for almost 2 months before going home. We've continued to help them this past year. We're including a picture at 8 months (left) and in September 2011 at 21 months of age (right). It is a real joy to be able to help these little ones who are so neglected. We thank God for the privilege to serve Him in this capacity. We think of the verses that keep us here in Haiti: Matthew 24:35 "I was hungry and you fed me..." and Matthew 24:40 "inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to Me."
